Abstract
The article examines the outcomes of the anti-alcohol policy and the “sober villages” initiative in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) as a means to improve the socio-demographic situation. During the past decade, comprehensive measures — including bans on alcohol sales in more than 200 villages — have yielded significant reductions in alcohol-related crime, and mortality. Official statistics indicate that the alcohol-related crime has dropped by 48%, and alcohol-attributable mortality among the working-age men has decreased by 32%. The study highlights how these measures positively affect public health and safety, contributing to demographic stability, reduced violence and crime, and overall social well-being in the region.
